Ways Mobile Browsing is going to Keep Changing the Net

In recent years, mobile browsing has, for the first time, taken over standard desktop browsing. With so many vast differences between the two modes of internet surfing, the effects of this shift are already being seen, and that’s only going to get more and more pronounced.
With cheaper 4G, and 5G on the horizon, we’re hardly tethered to our desks anymore, and the net has to reflect that. Here’s 7 ways in which mobile browsing is changing the online landscape.
With Apple’s Siri delivering disappointing results and experiences from day one, we’ve all been waiting for this technology to catch up with its claims of convenience and productivity, and with products like Amazon’s Alexa, in the last couple years, it’s finally begun to live up to the hype.
That means some big shifts online. For website designers, this is something they’re going to have to take into account when it comes to keywords and SEO. People are going to be searching for organic natural-sounding phrases instead of jumbled strings of words, for instance.
Responsive design is all about making sure a site works perfectly on every device it’s accessed through. No more awkward rescaling, or struggling to find buttons. In the future, all sites will feature some degree of responsivity. For web designers, it’s a double priority, with both users needing responsive design, and Google prioritising responsively designed sites. Win-win.
We’ve all seen plenty of different VR headsets released by various companies, including tie-ins with various mobile phones and games. Imagine in the future when you don’t need a laptop or monitor to view something, but just a powerful smartphone, and a VR headset, allowing you to set up a work station wherever you happen to be. That’s going to change the way the internet looks and functions.
Even with increasingly speedy 4G+, mobile browsing isn’t quite where it needs to be just yet, but that’s going to change with the projected release of 5G by late 2019-2020. Before then, however, web design companies are going to have to start prioritising site speed, especially for mobile devices.
Prioritised Mobile Site Design
This is a shift we’re going to see within the web design industry itself. With more and more of browsers primarily using they’re mobile phones and devices, it only makes sense that websites are going to start to be built primarily with mobiles in mind. In the next five years, you might even see sites that work better on mobiles than desktops.
The App Takeover
For many sites, including social media and e-commerce, it can make sense to prioritise apps rather than websites, as it allows for easier browsing, faster speeds and offline content. This could change in future with faster browsing speeds and more online mobile developments.
Big E-Commerce Shifts
The various e-commerce industries online can make for some pretty decisive shifts when it comes to the digital landscape. Mobile browsing has made collecting data and customer profiling much easier, as well as app development, with it all building towards a vastly more seamless, streamlined and easier online shopping experience.
